Are you ready to make a difference in our community?
If you look at an acorn, how many trees will you get if you plant it? Many people would say ONE. You plant the acorn and a tree grows! But what happens when that tree matures and makes acorns itself? A 100 year old oak tree will commonly produce 2200 acorns in one year. They do have irregular cycles of production, some years producing many acorns and some few. High producing years occur every 2-5 years and an oak tree can produce up to 10,000 acorns. So how many trees are in this one acorn? That is how mentoring works as well. The time and effort you put into your student can have astronomical effects on many many people as your student grows up, has a family and in turn will be a better spouse, parent, friend, etc! Mentoring is important!

Become a mentor!
“A mentor is someone who allows you to see the hope inside yourself.” — Oprah Winfrey
The pandemic has been really hard on everyone and student mental health issues are more common and more severe than ever. Having a trusted adult to talk to and get support from is one thing that we can do to make a difference. Contact Lori McClellan, FAB administrator at [email protected] for more information.
Waiting Lists
Our program is only limited by the number of volunteers available. We don't add students to the program unless we have mentors available. Currently, we have 25 students on the waiting list! Would you donate an hour of your time once a week to make a difference in the life of a Gillespie county student?
In changing student's lives, you also impact the entire family's life!
FAB functions primarily with the generous support of FISD. We also rely on donations from the community. You may donate in memory or honor of a loved one or pay your yearly or lifetime dues! You may donate to the Scholarship Fund or to the Operational Fund (Mentoring/OTTER Program),
